Tours for School Groups ​​​

Take your students time traveling. Preservation Utah offers two self-guided walking tours designed just for kids. Use these brochures to take your class on tours of two of Salt Lake City's most important historic streets.

The Salt Lake City and County Building

Dates and Times Available:

Weekdays only, year-round

9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Length of Tour: one hour

Suggested Audience: third through seventh grades

Number of Students: twenty maximum per tour

Address: 451 S. State Street, Salt Lake City

The City and County Building tour begins in the basement with the base isolators and ends in the clock tower. Students learn how the building's history and architecture have made it a symbol of Salt Lake City.

Self-Guided Tours for School Groups

Time Travel on South Temple

Length of Tour: one to two hours

Suggested Audience: fourth through seventh grades

Number of Students: We recommend each group of ten students have an adult leader.

Time Travel on South Temple is an exciting walking tour guide featuring ten historic buildings on South Temple Street between 300 East and 700 East. The brochure section for each building includes a description of its history and architecture, photographs, thinking questions, and a brief activity. The brochure also includes many historic photos. Whenever possible, connections are made between the buildings and the lives of historic or present-day children.

A Time Travel on South Temple Tour can be combined with a tour of Kearn's (Utah Governor's) Mansion. 

Historic Main Street Walking Tour

Length of Tour: one hour

Suggested Audience: fourth through seventh grades

Number of Students: We recommend each group of ten students have an adult leader.

Address: Main Street between South Temple and 200 South

​​​Preservation Utah's Historic Downtown Salt Lake City Walking Tour Guide includes a tour of Main Street. It features ten historic buildings and sites between South Temple and 200 South. Each entry includes a description of the building or site's history and architecture, a photograph, and thinking or observation questions. This is a great activity for classes studying early twentieth-century Utah.
