Find Who Represents You
Knowing who represents you is a critical first step in effective preservation advocacy—it allows you to share what matters to you, build relationships, and ensure decision-makers understand the priorities of their constituents.

County, City & Local Representatives
County and city officials play a critical role in shaping how communities grow and how historic places are treated. County Commissioners or County Council Members make decisions about land use, zoning, development approvals, and infrastructure—often affecting historic buildings, landscapes, and unincorporated areas. At the city level, Mayors, City Council Members, and local boards or commissions are often the decision-makers most directly involved in preservation outcomes. This includes planning commissions, redevelopment authorities, and historic preservation or landmarks commissions that influence how historic places are protected, reused, or altered.
Connecting with these local representatives is often the most effective way to advocate for preservation, as they directly hear from and respond to community members.
To help you get started, the State of Utah provides a directory of all Utah cities and counties, with links to official local government websites. From those sites, you can find current elected officials, commissions, and contact information—making it easier to share what matters to you as a constituent and advocate for the places you care about.
