About the event
🏛️Discover the city's oldest commercial building—erected before the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad—and marvel at three iconic commercial buildings designed by renowned architect Richard Kletting. Along the way, we’ll delve into the stories of Whiskey Street, the Pony Express, and the evolution of ZCMI in the heart of the city.
🏤You’ll also learn about influential Utah figures such as William Jennings, David Keith, Thomas Kearns, and others who helped shape Salt Lake’s development. And yes—we’ll even touch on the city’s more colorful past, including its history of gambling and prostitution, which once occupied half the buildings on Main Street!

Leading this tour is Ruth Morgan. Ruth is the President of Preservation Utah’s Volunteer Council. She has been leading tours for Preservation Utah for over 8 years. Ruth is passionate about architecture and history and loves sharing her passion with others.
