About

Good design has the power to transform a space and improve the way we live. The best design follows cues from the home's history, architecture, surroundings and isn't swayed by trends. My goal as a designer is to create spaces that are not only beautiful and timeless, but also provide functional comfort to enrich my clients' daily routine. My favorite type of project is a historic home remodel. They just don't make homes with as much care and detail as they used to, and I think it is imperative that we preserve the architectural details of the original home and only add materials and details that will enhance what is already there, and add character.

Service Description

I just completed a full renovation of a 1917 Craftsman Bungalow in the Yalecrest neighborhood in SLC. It was the perfect situation because the clients, architect, builder, and designer (myself) were all aligned in prioritizing keeping as much of the original history and character of the home as we possibly could, while also bringing it into this time and making it more functional for the way our clients live.

We were able to keep the majority of the interior stained wood trim work, some original doors, and the doors we did need to replace, we were sure to design new doors to match the original doors as closely as possible. The tile we chose for the fireplace was rooted in the history of early 1900s Craftsman homes. The clients invested in hardwood narrow plank oak floors to keep with what would have been chosen when this home was originally built. The new cabinetry we designed for the kitchen was a nice transitional style to bring the kitchen into this modern age, but also keep a nod to the traditional roots of the home.

We had an open house for this home once it was completed and the overwhelming feedback was that it felt so warm, full of character, and the design felt timeless. We are thrilled that we were able to preserve the soul of this home throughout this historic renovation.
