About the event
Weber County’s story has been shaped by many people, starting right where Saturday’s festival will be held.
Fort Buenaventura was the first permanent settlement by people of European descent in the Great Basin. Trapper Miles Goodyear built it in 1846 as a trading post for trappers and travelers along the Weber River. In 1847, Mormon settlers bought the fort for $1,950 and renamed the area Brownsville, which later became Ogden. Today, a reconstructed fort stands in the 84-acre county park. This Saturday, the Minute Men will open it for a rare look inside.
On June 27th, the Weber County Heritage Foundation invites everyone to celebrate this rich history at the “People of Weber County” Cultural Festival, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, at Fort Buenaventura.
The event features cultural zones representing the African American, Greek, Chinese, Italian, Hispanic, Pioneer, and Indigenous communities, with museum-quality storyboards, interactive exhibits, hands-on crafts, cultural food…
