About the event

Join Preservation Utah at Memorial House for a festive morning of holiday cheer and historic tradition! Enjoy hot chocolate, holiday music, and free visits and photos with St. Nicholas—the original inspiration behind Santa Claus.


Admission is free, but RSVPs are requested.


Unlike the red-suited Santa popularized by Coca-Cola in the 1930s, St. Nicholas traces his roots to 4th-century Myra (modern-day Turkey), where he was known for his generosity, compassion, and care for children and the poor. Over the centuries, his legend spread across Europe, inspiring timeless holiday customs that eventually shaped the Santa we know today. This event celebrates those earlier traditions, inviting families to experience a more historic and heartfelt version of the holiday spirit.


As part of the celebration, Preservation Utah will also be offering authentic 1930s papier-mâché Christmas ornaments—beautiful, vintage pieces that once adorned Memorial House during its early years. These limited-edition ornaments will be available for…
